Finished Reading: 'Breakfast Of Champions' by Kurt Vonnegut
October 15 2023
This post is a direct sequel to the 'Currently Reading' entry for this book: Here's the link to part 1. I might merge them in the future, we'll see.
Some spoiler free thoughts: The book continued to ping pong between its light and heavy states all the way to the end, but I did feel the underlying sadness slowing making its way to the surface. It is a really entertaining read, but it will weigh on you, so watch out for that!

The author is a character in the story throughout the 3rd act. The way Vonnegut writes himself into it and weaves between fact and fiction is amazing!
The ending starts with the event that we've been told is going to happen from early on in the story. The meeting of Wayne Hoover and Kilgore Trout, and the disastrous fallout of it. It's described with that same veneer of lightness, making it even more chilling.
The other thing at the end - and I wasn't expecting this - is the meeting of Kilgore Trout and the author, where the guilt is put on full display. It is pure sadness. With love, but still.
